Eleven is my Doctor. I’ve watched a serious chunk of classic Who and all of new Who and I just connect with Eleven on a level I haven’t had with other Doctors, even ones I otherwise adore.
So seeing him freak the hell out, in a way I don’t think we’ve seen from any new Who Doctor, was totally heartbreaking. The scene with the chapter titles, the scene on the staircase, and of course the end. I can’t even.
Bravo to Moffs on making the Doctor as vulnerable and (dare I say) human as I’ve ever seen him. Now I feel the need to watch him be silly and goofy to take my mind off things.

WAIT NO

THAT’S BETTER

Doctor Who - Invasion of the Dinosaurs (1974)
THIS ARC. OMG. The dinosaurs were SO CHEESY. Every time they showed up on screen I completely lost it. Hysterical!
The latest Doctor Who dinosaurs were not entirely believable but still extremely impressive.

my empire of derp: It makes me sad
Except I specifically said that I don’t think it’s bad or wrong to criticize a show. But you yourself reblogged a good example of what annoys me: someone going in thinking they will hate a show, (shockingly) hating it, and then getting on the internet and being all “I TOLD YOU I’D HATE IT.” Well, yes, why would anyone expect otherwise? And why do they feel the need to perform such a futile exercise? Anyways, not saying you did it (because you didn’t). But I’ve read at least three critiques that started out like this and I wasn’t even looking for them.…how much haterade is going on re: Asylum of the Daleks. I need a hate-umbrella to shield me so I can watch my show in peace. :/
Not that it’s bad or wrong to criticize a show - and there are, of course, legit criticisms to be had. But I see a lot of people saying “Man, I hate Moffat and how the…
Ehh, I’ll have to disagree here. I’ve loved Doctor Who for most of my life, so I’ll keep watching (even if it’s sometimes only sporadically). Moffat isn’t going to stop that, even if I dislike some of the large scope things he’s doing with the series. Plus, it was the season premier and a lot of people will watch the first few episodes to see if it’s still worth giving a chance.
Plus I think it’s completely legit to watch something you aren’t completely in love with (or even dislike). People are complicated and watch shows for a lot of reasons. And IDK man, trying to promote a culture that actively suppresses criticism is a pretty terrible way to do fandom. If not life.
To be honest what Tanzy posted was actually something I agreed with, not quite to that scale but to something a little smaller that was like a little rock in my shoe. I love Moffat and I do enjoy his writing and he has great vision. But I guess it’s because I really loved 10 so much that I saw everything I could and remembered distinctly Daleks vs Cybermen and that really awesome dialogue between the two that I turned to Ed and said “I thought Daleks didn’t care for beauty? They said so to the Cybermen.” Everything else was fine but that bothered me on and off.
The rest was fine, its like the 3rd time I got sad over a Dalek dying. (that one time they exposed an old Dalek to the sun or something (9 and Rose) was a really good one.)
That’s just my 2 bananas about it
Again, not criticizing the criticism, although TBH I was so *rolleyes* at the beginning of that post that I didn’t read the rest.
Which post did you roll eyes at?
That’s the thing though. You are criticizing people’s choice to engage in criticism. You disclaim at the beginning that you’re not, but then you proceed to do exactly that.
there are, of course, legit criticisms to be had
and
Just. Don’t. Watch. And quit bitching when you do, because you are being an asshole.
What exactly constitutes legitimate criticism as opposed to being an asshole? Because at least in the post I reblogged originally, aside from acknowledging at the beginning that she didn’t particularly like Moffat’s style, she didn’t spend any time insulting people who do. She just openly discussed her issues with the season premier.
I suppose I just really don’t understand the perspective that you should only watch things you know or think you will like. And the corollary assumption that you have forfeited your right to talk about something if you knew going in you might or probably wouldn’t like it. Some of my more revelatory moments of consuming media have been when I deliberately made the choice to expose myself to a movie/show/perspective that I knew I disagreed with and then talked with someone about why I didn’t like it (and also, sometimes when I discovered I did actually enjoy it).
I think you’re misjudging my post. Granted, I was being flippant and apparently didn’t get my point across very well.
There are two schools of thought here. You are talking about people who sit down, watch with an open mind, and then put their thoughts down in a reasoned, logical manner. I am talking about people who like to whine on the internet without critical thought.
Now, I am just some bitch with a laptop and a Tumblr. I am not going to change anyone’s mind. I think you may be ascribing more power to me than I have; I can’t exactly censor anyone’s words, and I wouldn’t want to.
However, if someone is keyboard-smashing some hate onto the interwebz, I do reserve my equal right to tell them to go outside and find some sunlight for a change.
As for the post you reblogged, it probably was very well reasoned and so on, but by the time it showed up on my dash I’d seen enough whining that I frankly did not give a shit what she had to say after the first paragraph. Of course, that’s not her fault, but I do have to say that starting out an article with something along the lines of “I expected to hate this and then I did” is a giant red confirmation bias flag.
